Variables

In Writers' Workshop, students wrote an informational essay.  This is a pre-assessment for our next unit, The Art of Information Writing.

In Readers' Workshop, students used the comparison matrix and comparing words to compare elements of plot.

We're a good chunk into our read aloud, Masterminds.  Ask your child to make a prediction; what does being "special" really mean?

In Math Workshop, students used order of operations to solve and create an equations that match word problems.

In Science, students read "uh-oh scenarios" to evaluate other experiments.  Students proved how the uh-oh experiments were invalid by identifying the variables that were not controlled.  Ask your child what a variable is (A: something in an experiment that can change and affect the results of that experiment).
