Absorbency

In Readers' Workshop, we used a few of our theme strategies to identify themes in two different texts written by the same author.  Tomorrow, we'll use comparing words to compare the themes and write a paragraph.

In Writers' Workshop, students learned that informational writers borrow teaching moves when they write.  We practiced identifying a topic, subtopics and then used teaching strategies to help teach others about our topic.  Today we only talked about our topic.  Before students can write effectively in the informational genre, they must be able to say it first (if you can think it, you can say it, you can write it).

In Math Workshop, students examined a multi-digit multiplication problem and identified the error in the process.  It's critical for students to have a solid understanding of place value and it's implication on multi-digit multiplication before I teach them standard algorithm (coming soon! Don't worry!).

In Science, students conducted their first experiment.  They wanted to test the absorbency of three different paper towels.  Ask your child which paper towel was the most absorbent and how they know!
