Figure Me Out!

In Readers' Workshop, we finished up our theme exploration unit.  Moving forward, students will be learning strategies to help them identify, compare and grow ideas about setting and plot.

In Writers' Workshop, students wrote using lists to emphasize important ideas in their literary essays.

In Math Workshop, students applied what they knew about equivalent fractions, adding fractions, fraction models, and multi-step problems to "figure out" which poster belonged to each student.  Additionally, in "Number Talks", we began working on strategies to solve multi-digit multiplication equations.  Ask your child to solve 5 x 25.  Ask them for their strategy (A: Friendly numbers would probably work best here; think 5 quarters).

We will start our new Read Aloud book tomorrow:  Masterminds, Gordon Korman.

In Social Studies, we explored the purpose of taxes.
